hey, i see a lot of people going straight into scoring programs and everything and have trouble with all of it because they have barely learned how to dribble, pass, shoot, etc. What I think people should do is hit up some of dre baldwins hoop handbooks, you can practice the fundamentals such as ball handling, shooting, finishing around the rim, passing and defense. He's by far one of the best out there. Also hes very very good at repetition and doing the drills over and over. So what do you guys think about people jumping straight into these scoring programs without mastering the fundamentals?

Agreed. A lot of the programs out there are pretty advanced. When I hear about 12-13 year olds doing PGA for example, I kinda cringe. I think they would be much better suited to just go out and PLAY. Play all day until they puke. Then play some more. These guys don't realize you need a baseline of fundamentals before you can make any real progress on your skill training. Great post.

Good point, I barely play bball through out the year but when the summer comes I play almost everyday with people from all skill levels. I guess its time to brush up on those basics

Yeah, me too. Since I have no gym to go to, but once I practice the fundamentals to a point where its almost automatic then its over for whoever has to guard me..

Yeah I agree 100%. I would say a nice progression would be to just scrimmage a lot w/ maybe a little bit of ball handling before, and definitely some form shooting. Then Start on one of those fundamental skill programs like youth EGT for example, or dre baldwin, then moving onto an all around skill program that is basic like EGT, then moving into more advanced stuff like damins and micahs programs. Would you agree thedougaller?

I think the younger you are the more your time should be spent playing the game. You still have to do skill work, but it will be very very basic and the ratio of playing to skill work should be in favor of playing. As you get older this changes and eventually skill work becomes much more important & complex.
