Genetics is always nice if u want to get to a 45+ inch vertical etc. But nobody can know the potential of their genetics without constantly challenging themselves.
U see nate robinson said he dunked when he was 13. He tried to dunk all the time his body got accustomed to the constant jumping and the body adapted to it.
My 0.02 cents, there is a bit of bro science.

Working hard doesn't always work.. but you know what does? Not working hard.

My thing is you CAN get better skill wise. There is ALWAYS something you can work on. Genetic wise people are just able to build muscle way faster than others. What really pisses me off (I used to be like this) is when people are butt hurt and complain about their genes yet they don't work smart and hard so they don't know their true potential.

For example I complain about my vertical yet I haven't done a consistent weight lifting regimen and I have a jumpers knee. I don't know my true potential
